The first Thursday of the month is the night for gallery crawling in the Pearl and downtown. All the downtown, Yamhill Marketplace, Oldtown and Pearl District galleries are open for a couple hours, and if you're willing to fight the crowds, you might be able to get a snack or a glass of something, as well as a gander at some art.

This occurs in the central Eastside. Ummm, that's huge. I mean, geographically. Not exactly walkable.

This publication comes out monthly as a print pub and online for some of the more serious galleries that participate in First Thursday. You can pick up the printed version at any of the member galleries (which are mostly in the Pearl, with a couple in the Yamhill Marketplace district, one in Old Town, and one in Nob Hill. There is no editorial—it's basically an ad book for the galleries. But since they feature photographs of the art, it's a nice preview.
