There was great moaning and lamentation when LOW (Laid Off Workers) BBQ (serving you with 15 years in the semiconductor industory!) closed in August 2005. Rodney Muirhead and Kyle Connally worked magic with slow-smoked Painted Hills beef brisket and to-die for pork ribs. But they got other jobs, and the BBQ, beloved as it was, had to go.
Luckily, Ken Gordon of Ken's Place has picked up the mantle. He worked with Kyle and Rodney to uphold the very high standards, as well as the expectations of LOW's rabid fans.
And, lo, it was yummy. We had brisket, coleslaw, greens and cornbread, a filling and tasty meal. The brisket was crusty and melt-in-your-mouth good, the greens were good, very mild and not bitter, the coleslaw vinegary and creamy, not-sweet cornbread, well, yum. And the sauce, on the tables—nice, very nice. Last night, they debuted mac-n-cheese, which had sold out by the time I got there. There are other meats (last night's special was a cornish game hen), but I admit, I was all about my brisket and didn't take notes. I had some incredible pecan pie to finish the meal.
The only drawback I can think of is, BBQ isn't cheap. A plate with a single meat is $11ish, and if you want more meat, it costs more. Well, and it's so good, I tend to overeat.
