Places to Donate Your Vehicle

carAre you thinking about going car-free? Or just want to be rid of a car, boat, motorcycle, etc?

As long as it's still worth $70, and you have a clear title signed off by the titled owner, a number of organizations would be willing to tow it away (some even give an incentive for driving it in). You get the convenience, and maybe a write-off on your taxes.

If you want your old clunker to benefit 68 environmental organizations, you can also donate your car to Earth Share of Oregon. Just another environmental option!

Thanks, I've added it!

Does anybody know anything about donating a car and writing it off your taxes? It's my understanding that the value that you may deduct is the actual auction value and not a blue book value. Is this correct?

Would appreciate any advice as we are likely to get rid of our soon.

I didn't add any info about that because it's unclear to me exactly how it works. But, I believe, if the car is worth less than $500, you use the auction value. If the car is worth more than $500, you need to fill out IRS Form 8283.

You might find this helpful (or, more confusing):,,id=131660,00.html
