People were predicting this for quite some time. I never had a chance to check it out though...I am not sure what is meant by "Stein was the sole owner, so it was his to close". What exactly is that supposed to mean?
I never got to eat there as well. But basically, the quote from Nick means that Stein (the owner/chef) was the sole owner (most restaurants are owned by multiple people, or a corporation [not always a bad thing]), and because of that, if he has a whim to close, he can. Though it appears he's been shuffling through vendors for a while now, and that is never a good sign.
