Enrique Andrade, the spanish voice of MAX

If you've ever wondered about the Spanish voice-overs on the MAX, advising you to exit to your right or your left, and to give up your seat for handicappers, Enrique Andrade is that voice. This couple minute interview/MP3, done by the Oregonian, is, of course, conducted on the MAX.

Speaking of Enrique Andrade, I ride MAX nearly everyday and I've noticed recently that a couple operators in particular seem to be cutting off the spanish announcements by using the PA chime. It usually happens repeatedly on a particular trip, if it happens at all. I wonder if there is some explanation for this or if its just a hyper-nationalist anglo working for Trimet who doesn't want a spanish voice on our public transportation. Any thoughts?

Interesting. I don't take MAX very often, but this morning I did, and not only did I hear Andrade's advice, but at Rose Quarter, they played all of his announcements twice(!). Anyways, my answer is: I haven't a clue.

I have met Enrique and he is a lovely person. You might have the pleasure of hearing him interpret in the State Court System if you are ever "lucky" enough to be in court, as he is a Court Interpreter, something I, myself, am aspiring to. Maybe I could be the future female voice of Tram! Except for the fact that it only has 1 stop, maybe they don't need an announcer...Tal vez!
