It's Francis Ford Coppola on the phone, the great director and producer and cinematic innovator and winegrower and hotelier and publisher and restaurateur and paterfamilias, and he's excited to hear that he's talking to someone in Portland, Oregon.

"I've always wanted to go to Portland," he says. "Many times I've set out to go because I've heard it's such a beautiful city and it has a great ..."

Natural beauty? Film scene? Wine and beer culture? Collection of restaurants?

"... bus system."

Bus system?

"I'm very interested in mass transportation," Coppola adds, "because it doesn't take a genius to know that there's not enough Earth for all of the cars that we've got. Now they're starting to make $2,000 cars in India, and I think, who are they kidding? Where are they gonna find the parking or the highways? There isn't enough land! I wanna see that bus system and ride those buses. I will definitely come."
