When I originally wrote this in the bad old nineties, it was pretty much black and white -- banks were bad, credit unions were good. With some exceptions, of course....
Oregonians still have no laws in place to protect ATM users from fees, and for good or bad, private ATM machines are just about everywhere -- in convenience stores, bars, restaurants, and even food co-ops. So, what about fees? Well, Washington Mutual is the one bank with lots of ATMs that pledges fee-free machines. You may well still have to pay a fee to your bank... Otherwise, if you're a credit union member, credit union ATMs are still the way to go, though you may still face a fee. If you're a bank customer, well, you're on your own...

So we've listed some credit union ATMS -- the ones listed here are Multco Employees, Pacific NW Federal, Portland Teachers, Electra and PACE; and Washington Mutual branches.

Thanks to Kristi, Jim, James and Steve who contributed listings
